Erectile Dysfunction, Impotence and High Blood Pressure - Trying to Understand the Basics
If the truth be known and you could ask a whole group of men on the quiet and asked them what one of their deepest fears would be? The chances are that you would find that the fear of impotence would be right there among the topmost answers provided.
What Impotence is and why it gives grown men such an attack of fear can arise from a number of reasons. For our purposes the cause, effect and treatment of Impotence caused by and as a side effect of High Blood Pressure is of primary interest but it does raise another question.
Impotence can be caused by a wide variety of conditions and illnesses not all of which are related to High Blood Pressure.
Impotence can be caused as a side effect of Vascular Disease, Diabetes, and other Diseases of the Nervous System. It could be brought about as a side effect of some forms of Cancer Surgery. It could be brought about as a side effect of a number of medications as well as the old favourites (or not as the case may be) of Alcohol and Smoking leading to an imbalance of Hormones.
Of course, one of the real reasons for the occurrence of Impotence could be psychological? It is a very primeval fear amongst men that one day they could be in the position of not being able to really perform like a man and be able to satisfactorily fulfil one of mans most base desires.
A man who is suffering from bouts of depression and worried whether this may be causing problems in that department may not be able to either have an erection or be able to sustain a satisfactory erection for the purposes of fulfilling sexual intercourse.
Quite often these fears can be rationalised and dealt with by a referral to qualified therapists or Counsellors who specialise in the treatment of sexual problems like these.
Often Impotence, certainly that brought about through irrational fears (not wishing to downplay them at all) can be dealt with adequately once the sufferer has a better grasp of what is going on with his won body, how his body changes as he ages and how he can adapt to these changes.
It often reminds me of the old joke of what are the similarities between young men, old men, Fast Food Outlets and Michelin Star Restaurants. With one, the service arrives extremely quickly but it by and large leaves you wanting for slightly more and with the other the service may take slightly longer to arrive but when it does you can certainly appreciate the quality!
