Nobody likes to get complaints. They make you question your judgment, they can ruin your day, and they almost always leave you in a bad mood. But what if I told you that complaints are actually a good thing?

Really! Im not kidding. Complaints are one of the best forms of research you can perform. Complaints are also one of the best sources for new product/service ideas. How so? Most people who complain are upset. When people get upset, they are more likely to speak their minds. Most people who complain also like to tell you exactly what youve done wrong AND tell you how they would do it better. While your customers attitudes may not be something to look forward to, their hidden suggestions are!

Lets look at this complaint:

I cant believe you are sending these huge files through email! How ridiculous can a person be!? That clogs up the emails of those of us who are on dial-up for at least 20 minutes. I dont have time for this. You know, if you had a brain in your head, youd know about XYZ.com. They burn CDs for about $0.30 each and will ship them to your customers for about $1.00 each. Anybody can afford that price. Ive deleted your email. When you decide to operate like a real business and send me a CD, Ill look at it.

Yes its a harsh email. But most people who complain dont have very good manners, now do they? But take away the emotion. Take away the temper. Take away the insults, and what do you have left? A VERY good resource for CDs!

This person has just given you a resource that can:

(a) solve your problem with huge downloads

(b) be a new product to sell (CDs instead of downloadable files)

(c) offer you a solution that can benefit you and your customers

All for free!

How about the complaints that say, You know, you really ought to Well? Maybe you really ought to. Have you thought about the customers suggestion? Yes, it was probably hidden beneath a pile of profane words and threats but look deeper. In all honesty, is this unruly customer doing you a favor?

It happens more often than you might think. People, in general, have a bad habit of trying to show those they are upset with how big and bad they are. More times than not, youll get great ideas buried inside a wrapper of rudeness.

The next time you get a complaint, unwrap the package, and you just might find that the complaint is a blessing in disguise. If you remove the ugliness from the message, you could very well have some terrific ideas for improving or expanding your business!

Something not required Something above and beyond what a normal cold caller or telemarketer would do... A surprise that delights the decision-maker

Here's one of my favourites: I hand written in bold letter on a post card "Thank you for taking the time to meet with me on the (Date & Time). I look forward to our next discussion with great anticipation. Warm regards. That's relationship creation!

It is easy to Say "Thank you." Always express appreciation and gratitude when ever you make contact with a prospect but don't over do it. Do this with decision-makers. In fact, do it with everyone. People talk. Word gets back that you're nice. Decision-makers like to relate with nice people.

3. Think about what service or products do they need to know about and then be the expert on your subject then learn your service or product inside out, upside down, backward and forward. Focus your full attention on your prospect through your sales call not on what's best for you.

Here is my take on this. I would use my intuition to look into the consciousness of my intended prospect, what are their fears, their hopes, and their wants? What matters most to them at the core of their being? So in essence you would find out what are their concerns, their dreams and fantasies of their business? How can show them the light at the end of the tunnel? How can you ease their pain? How can you replace their pain with a workable solution?

I promise you this, when you dig deep into the prospects concerns and offer measurable solutions, you add power impact, popularity and strong business connections. You have relationship creation!

In the earlier article An Amazing Discovery in Turkey, the first of this series of articles about oleander, I described how Doctor H. Z. Ozelle discovered an age old remedy for cancer and other conditions in rural Turkey in the early 1960s and, after successfully treating thousands of patients over the past 40 years, Dr. Ozel patented the medicine and it was entered into FDA trials. Unfortunately, after passing phase I trials, the patented medicine known as Anvirzel has languished for lack of funding (many consider a the patent, based on an age old remedy and common plant to be a weak one) and inter-company squabbles and it may be many years, if ever, before this promising cancer fighter reaches the market as an FDA approved medicine.

The good news is that you do not have to wait for the approved medication, because you can make your own oleander extract at home on your stovetop, based on the original patent by Doctor Ozel and the folk remedy that has been used for thousands of years. Oleander is a naturally growing plant found all over the southern and southwestern United States and throughout much of the world, and if it isnt growing naturally near you, you can order oleander plants from many mail-order nurseries on the internet. (There are also at least three sources of a commercial supplement version I am aware of, but that will have to wait for a subsequent installment in this series.).

Yes, you can make your own oleander remedy, known as oleander soup at home about as easily as a large pot of beans, and for that, you can thank a personal injury lawyer by the name of Edward F. Hensley, from San Antonio, Texas, whom I call the "Father of Oleander Soup".

In 2002, Eds mother was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer, small cell, and a sister with Hepatitis-C. Eds sister, Catrina (Cat), began researching and networking with her friends for answers to the doctors prognosis that Betty Hensley only had a few months to live. After contacting one of her old friends, she was told about a clinic in Honduras she could contact and discuss a new cancer drug, which was being made in San Antonio. Cat made a few calls and found who to order the drug from. It cost $1500.00 for a six-week supply of what was called Anvirzel. Cat, Ed, and their brother John put up the initial funds and the drug was ordered.

Betty had been seeing an oncologist in San Antonio, who advised of the risks of chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, and the fact that in her advanced stage, it would have only a small chance of extending her life, and a big chance of serious side effects, including destroying her immune system. Even so, she did try chemo for several weeks, with no result. When the Anvirzel arrived, she began injecting it with Cats help, following the instructions provided by the medical doctor in Honduras. After three weeks she went in for new scans with her oncologist. The new films showed the tumors in both her lungs and her liver were shrinking. Her doctor could not directly participate in the injections, but agreed to research the drug.

When the six week supply was about gone, and Betty was very sore at the site of her injections, Ed began researching what this new drug was made of, and what its long term usage going to do, and cost. The FDA had a letter posted on its site, warning about the drug, made from the oleander plant, saying it was unproven and should not be used. Yet, the clinic in Honduras was reporting many successful cures of several types of cancer, including juvenile brain cancer.

Ed was determined to find out what was in the drug, and went to the U.S. Patent office web site and researched using the term Anvirzel. After several searches, Ed found the patent. It was about 39 pages of legalese, written in the language of patent attorneys, who charge $400 per hour for writing patents, which only lawyers and scientists dare to read.

After several weeks of part time study, the patent began to make sense. It was simply a very confusing, overly detailed, and exaggerated method of making a soup out of the leaves and stems of a common plant, oleander. No problem. Ed had huge oleander plants in his back yard, which were very healthy ornamentals with beautiful flowers year-round. Making the soup was as simple as getting a soup pot, some clippers, an electric hot plate, and a place to cook. Eds wife, Carol, would not permit him to cook it in her kitchen, so Ed was resigned to his outside store room, a 10x18 foot building storing yard tools and seasonal sports equipment. After burning several pots of soup because the heat was too high, Ed turned down the heat, and boiled the water and oleander clippings for four hours. Then he took out the leaves and stems, and strained the remaining broth, using paper towels and plastic strainers. Per Dr. Ozels method in the patent, he allowed the broth to cool before straining. He then slow boiled the broth until only about one fifth of the original liquid was left in the bottom of the 12-quart pot.

Ed measured the specific gravity with an anti-freeze gauge, which showed the measurements on a small scale. It was where Dr. Ozel recommended in the patent, about as thick as chicken soup broth. Next, 10 feeder mice were purchased and given the new liquid, which Ed named oleander soup, as their only source of liquid for two weeks, with all the mouse food they could eat. The mice gained weight, were kind of lazy, but remained alive and looking well.

Eds mother was about out of her supply of Anvirzel at that point, so Ed took a bottle of the soup to Bettys house for a comparison with her drug. It looked the same. It tasted the same. The new soup was fresh, not freeze dried and re-constituted, and according to Betty, tasted fresher. Ed went first and tried some, about a teaspoon. Betty then tried it, taking a teaspoon full. She declared she liked the fresh version better, and that was that. She took oral doses three times a day with meals, with diarrhea the only side effect, which subsided after a week.

Her tests three weeks later were surprising, showing the tumors were still shrinking and were almost gone. A month later, she had no tumors at all. Betty quit taking the soup after another month, after her doctor declared she was free of cancer.

Sadly, about eight months later, feeling healthy, and energetic, Betty flopped down on her bed for a nap, and felt her collar bone snap. Tests showed cancer in the bone, and it was aggressive. Her oncologist referred her to another doctor who recommended some strong new chemotherapy, and discouraged her from going back on the oleander extract. In two months the chemo had slowed the bone cancer, but had also destroyed her kidneys. She died a month later of kidney failure, never taking another drop of the oleander soup or Anvirzel, which had previously saved her life. But she trusted her oncologist, who was very nice and very persuasive. Thankfully, Betty did live to be 88 years of age. She had been a heavy, two pack a day smoker since Eds father gave her a cigarette when she was 18. He died at 61 from coronary disease, directly related to his heavy smoking.

Catrina had been dealing with Hepatitis-C, a serious liver condition, which often leads to liver cancer. She began making her own oleander soup and took it, hoping it would stop her condition. It did. In less than two months, her Hepatitis-C was gone. Her liver enzymes were normal. It has not returned in over two years. She has shared the recipe with doctors from Mexico who are treating poor patients with aids, cancer, Hepatitis-c, and psoriasis. A friend of hers reports her rheumatoid arthritis symptoms have gone using the homemade remedy. She laughs when describing the scene in her kitchen, with a big pot of boiling leaves, and two Mexican brothers, medical doctors, standing there taking notes on how to cook something not nearly as difficult as boracho beans or chicken mole, two favorite Mexican dishes.

Later in 2003, Ed was surfing the Internet, looking for sites that referenced Anvirzel. He found the Minnesota Wellness Directory site, and read their remarks about how good the prospects were for this new extract made from poisonous oleander leaves. Ed e-mailed the host the recipe and a short summary of his research. After the host, David Bonello, researched the concept and the soup recipe, including getting opinions from his herbalist and medical friends, he published the recipe on his site in his June 2003 newsletter, with warnings about its use.

Since 2003, a great many people have used the recipe to make their own oleander soup, including friends and family of Ed Hensley, David Bonello and the author. Not one of them have reported a serious side effect and many of them have reported that their cancers and other disorders had disappeared or were greatly were improved.

One of the biggest unresolved problems facing our world is that of unwanted pregnancies, particularly among teens. In todays day and age almost 1,000,000 teens will become pregnant with children they dont want. Because of the rampant belief of pre-marital sex, unwanted pregnancies and even more serious, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) have skyrocketed in the last 40 years.

STD's are a serious disease that either can be cured or cannot. With the seriousness of the effects that these diseases have it would be thought that people would be a little more careful. Transmitted diseases (STD's) are infections that are passed from one person to another by sexual contact. The number of STD's has risen constantly; according to the national institutes of health More than 12 million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases occur each year, at least 3 million of them are teenagers.. HIV is one of the deadliest STD's to acquire and one of the most fearful, due to its inability to be cured. According to Henderson an estimated 29.4 [million] people throughout the world had been infected with HIV, and an approximate number of 8.4 million contracted AIDS.

STD's are contracted though sexual contact. There are many different types of STD's, some of the more common are "Chlamydeous, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Crab lice, Syphilis, Genital warts, Trichomunal, HIV and Hepatitis B." (Jacobs 1). As a sexually active teen in this day and age, it is almost a necessity to use a condom. Disease testing should also be a priority and done every couple of months to ensure well being. Some signs and symptoms that are noticeable are blisters, painful bumps, or sore in the genital region.. Other symptoms may be warty growths around the genitals, a yellowish discharge from the vagina, or frequent painful urination. Sexually transmitted diseases inflict long term affects to their victims. It is a know fact that STD's are running rampant in today's society, yet some people still indulge in their carnal desires through unprotected sex.

Unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases are only two of the many negative consequences teenager today must face. These issues can also have a psychological, as well as a physical effect on the body. Teenagers are not physically capable to handle the responsibilities that raising a child requires. A teenagers life today is very stressful; let alone having to care for another human being. It's a tremendous stress feeding, comforting, and looking out for a baby for the rest of his/her life. Raising a child should be left to mature adults only, what kind of life is a child to have being raised by another child or children? Teenagers are to busy with their lives to deal with problems that come with having children. Many teen parents are led to welfare; in fact "over three-quarters of all unmarried teenage mothers begin receiving cash benefits form the AID to families with dependant children (AFDC) program within five years of the birth of their first child.

When teens are involved in adult issues there is always a negative stereotype that follows. People in the community, instead of helping the teens involved the pregnancy issue, they are more willing to spread rumors and gossip about how poor of parents the teens are. The stereotype is different for the boys involved than for the girls. The boys for most of the time, are blamed for the entire pregnancy. People in the community for the most will label the boy as a bad seed, irresponsible, and a father that will most likely abandoned their responsibilities. When in fact that might not even be the case at all. The parents of the girl who has gotten pregnant will most likely prevent the girl form coming in contact with the boy. These are all the wrong actions that the community will take, but it is what will most likely happen. On the other hand the girl is faced with the entire community believing that she is promiscuous and allowed this to willingly happen.

If more active teens would take the time to plan ahead, all of the previous problems stated throughout this paper would either be resolved or never of happened. Family planning has many benefits, it benefits family by ensuring a closer and a reliable family. A lot of families break up after their teenager unexpectedly becomes a parent. With family planning practiced in every home it would prevent the 900,000 girls a year from becoming pregnant. Family planning will also benefit society. It will show younger girls to practice it, and in whole prevent more and more teen pregnancies as time goes on. Planning ahead also benefits both the male and the female. It helps to maintain and keep their lives in order, while at the same time it secures their lives form heartache and an unwanted child.

With every problem there must be a solution, whether it be before or after the fact. In order to maintain a steady household after the birth of a child, when the responsibility is not yet ready to be handled, Counseling may be in order. For some it may be individual counseling, but for the most part group or family counseling is favored. There are several programs that focus on the prevention of unwanted pregnancy. These groups have shown to have positive effects on delaying intercourse; it also improves contraceptive use therefore preventing pregnancy among adolescents. Hopefully in the near future more and more teens along with adults will realize the seriousness of caring for a child and the burden that comes along with it.
